Summary
Jessica Jonesactress Krysten Ritter had a reasonable question for a Marvel Studios executive about her character’s highly requested return to the MCU.
Jessica Jones,Daredevil, and Netflix’s other Marvel shows were largely ignored by the Marvel Studios movies despite being touted as part of theMCU. After Netflix canceled its Marvel shows, there was hope that Marvel Studios would properly bring Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and the other Defenders characters to the MCU. Those hopes were realized whenMarvel Studios moved forward withDaredevil: Born Again, with Charlie Cox reprising his role as the Man Without Fear after making small cameos inSpider-Man: No Way HomeandEcho. However, as of this writing, there’s no word on whether Ritter could reprise her role as Jessica Jones in the MCU.

During an interview withComicBook.comto promoteSonic the Hedgehog 3, Ritter was told about comments Marvel Studios' Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum made expressing that Jessica Jones was theDefenderscharacter he most wanted to see in the MCU. Ritter was seemingly unaware of Winderbaum’s comments but enthusiasticallyreiterated her willingness to return as Jessica Jonesand called on the Marvel Studios executive to make it happen since he’s the one who arguably can make that decision. “Brad Winderbaum said that? That’s really exciting to hear. Isn’t that the guy who makes the call?” Ritter said. “Come on, Brad! Let’s get it going. Let’s do it. I’ll be ready.”
Daredevil: Born Againfeatures Cox’s Matt Murdock alongside Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page, Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. So, Ritter’s Jessica Jones is arguably the most popular Defenders saga character whose return hasn’t been announced. Ritter has shared social media posts that fans interpreted ashints at Jessica Jones returning to the MCU, but people may have been reading into those photos, as such a return hasn’t materialized yet.
While the MCU can undoubtedly move forward without any other Defenders characters, it would be a shame if Ritter’s Jessica Jones never returned. The first season ofJessica Joneswas highly acclaimed, and many consider Ritter’s performance on par with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man or Chris Evans' Captain America as far as perfect casting goes. She fully embodied the character and may regard her work as a standout portrayal across Marvel media.
Of course, Ritter may have filmed a Jessica Jones scene or two that hasn’t leaked yet. After all, there are rumors ofSpider-Man potentially spearing inDaredevil: Born Again, so why couldn’t Jessica Jones' return still be possible? That said, fans probably shouldn’t get their hopes too high. As of this writing, Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones is still wishful thinking.
Jessica Jonesis now available on Disney Plus.
