Based on a post by Sonic Stadium on Twitter, the Google metadata for the game’s website, as well as the YouTube video description of the Sega Asia (English) version of the reveal trailer forSonic Racing: CrossWorlds, contains a brief synopsis of its premise. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Might Have Similarities to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformedis aSonicracing game spin-offthat features transforming vehicles, with a player being able to shift between a car, boat, and plane mode during certain points in a race. These transformations usually allow players to access certain paths or traverse difficult terrain. Certain racetracks can also terraform in the middle of the race, giving players the chance to switch between different playstyles during a lap. As such, some speculate thatSonic Racing: CrossWorldscould be using these mechanics in its gameplay.

While Shadow’s car is the main focus of the cinematic trailer, some fans suspect thatthe Extreme Gear airboards fromSonic Riderscould also be a vehicle type, based on how one can possibly be seen hanging on a wall. The airboards being able to traverse over different areas as described by Sega seem to add credence to this theory as well. Some fans are also speculating theCrossWorldspart of the title could also lead to more Sega characters like NiGHTs or Ulala crossing over to the game as well.
