Summary
AStardew Valleyplayer shared their surprising discovery with Pelican Town’s fountain, discovering that fish live in it. It’s an unexpected find, especially since theStardew Valleyplayer has been engaged with the game for close to 900 hours.
Stardew Valleyplayers can try fishingjust about anywhere that there’s water, or in some cases, even lava. However, that doesn’t mean that players can actually get fish from every body of water. Sometimes players can fish in manmade water ponds and the like and retrieve unusual things, like Secret Notes, cosmetic items, or just garbage.

Stardew Valleyplayer raccafarian was surprised to discover that, in addition to the potential to get adecorative Garbage Can in the Pelican Town fountain, they were able to actually catch fish. Players have been surprised to learn that it was possible to fish up algae, garbage, and the aforementioned item from the fountain in the past, but it hasn’t been previously possible to find any fish in it. Of course, some real man-made ponds and the like can add fish, like koi, but it would be a bit odd to find them in a fountain like this.
Stardew Valley Fountain Fish Might Be Unintentional
To clarify, it seems as though finding fish in the fountain is something that has only happened recently. It’s not clear why, though. Nothing in theStardew Valley 1.6update notesand onward says anything about adding fish to the fountain, though it’s possible that it’s simply an unmentioned change. However, it’s also possible that the water in the fountain was somehow assigned to have the same pool of available things to catch as other local bodies of water by mistake. In this case, the fish may be patched out in a future update.
Game Rant was able to confirm thatSunfishcan be caught in the fountain in the Switch version of the game. However, other players have reported reeling in additional varieties of fish, likeSmallmouth Bass, Pike, and evenRainbow Trout. What’s available in the fountain may vary depending on the season, much like every other natural body of water in the game. The only downside to this discovery is that it could make it a little tougher to complete aquest given to players by Linus. The quest tasks the farmer with cleaning up garbage from the town’s waters, and players would sometimes cheese it by fishing in the fountain, which produced garbage more frequently due to the lack of fish.
