Summary

Stardew Valleyplayers are voicing their opinion that Gus would make a better Mayor than Lewis. TheStardew Valleyconversation has shined a spotlight on Gus and seems to indicate that players would like a change, or the ability to make a choice.

InStardew Valley,Gus runs the Stardrop Saloonthat sits in the center of Pelican Town. The locale is open every evening except for select holidays, when events take up the town space. While Gus doesn’t spend a lot of time outside of his business, it seems he’s left quite the impression on players.

Stardew Valleyfan oldeluke shared a post on the game’s subreddit where they suggested thatGuswould make a better Mayor of Pelican Town than the current one,Lewis. The post shows an image of Gus warning the residents that the weather report for Pelican Town has reported an anomaly is arriving the next day, and that he will be opening the Saloon early and letting anyone stay as long as they like to take shelter. WhileStardew Valley’s green raincan be alarming, the post uses this as a demonstration of how Gus would make an appropriate leader for Pelican Town.

Stardew Valley Fans Suggest a Change of Mayor

Numerous players have supported oldeluke’s thoughts, suggesting that Gus is a pillar of the community, running a successful business while still finding time to help others and even give food away to the homeless. Many players seem fond of Gus, while Lewis' behavior seems to draw criticism. Many players pointed out that unlike Mayor Lewis, Gus doesn’t keep relationships hidden away or have golden statues like theSolid Gold Lewisconstructed of himself, further cementing him as a superior choice.

Other players simply wanted to have an option of who to pick for Mayor. Lewis mentions at one point that nobody was running against him, so he essentially becomes the Mayor by default. However, the state of Pelican Town when the player arrives, plus his eyebrow-raising activities have led some to think that the area would be better in someone else’s hands. Unfortunately, there isn’t an actual Mayor election for players to participate in, and outside of modding, no opportunity for Lewis to step down or be replaced.

Stardew ValleyNPCs are flawed, and that’s part of what players often like about them. However, players' willingness to harass Mayor Lewis with his own shorts and criticisms like these keep emerging over time. Allowing someone else to become major would mean a huge overhaul to the game, which seems unlikely for developer ConcernedApe to pursue at this time.
