Since piloting the Frontier is required for completing the game’s tutorial mission, Lost_Lasagna embarked on this challenge only after they reached Jemison, thehome planet ofStarfield’s New Atlantis. It was at this point that the player opted to sell all of their worldly possessions and start their star-system-hopping adventure as a feral forest person rather than someone fast-tracked to a Constellation membership due to a severe case of main character energy. The fan explained that they always found the game’s introductory sequence to be too “forced,” citing that as the main reason why they wanted to try something different this time around.

Lost_Lasagna ultimately found this challenge run to be a welcome improvement compared to the intended pace of the game’s introductory sequence. “It was the most fun I’ve had, honestly,” the player wrote on Reddit, noting how the opening hours of their adventure were much more satisfying to overcome with zero head-start on resources. In order to make matters even more interesting, Lost_Lasagna decided not to steal and was primarily reliant on combat for all their credit needs. They ultimately managed to save up enough money for their own spaceship after about four hours, which they found to be well worth the effort.

At one point,Bethesda was planning on makingStarfieldmuch more hardcorethan the RPG that it ended up shipping in 2023. While forcing players to spend hours running around a forest naked, Lost_Lasagna-style, was likely never on the table, features like a realistic fuel system and more immersive building mechanics were once in the pipeline. But Bethesda eventually ended up cutting many such ideas, with executive producer Todd Howard previously revealing this would have often happened if a feature was deemed a “fun killer.”
