Summary

Now that 2024 is almost over, fans are even more excited to see how one ofNetflix’s biggest and most popular series is going to say goodbye.Stranger Thingsseason 5 will be released in 2025, and like other fans, I have as many thoughts about the final episodes as I do questions. It’s been fun to seebehind-the-scenes photos of the setand hear the talented actors talk about what the finale is like.

SinceJim Hopper (David Harbour) is one of my favoriteStranger Thingscharacters, I’ve been reflecting on everything he has been through and thinking about how his arc could conclude. I want to see a particular plotline for Hopper, and even though there’s going to be a lot of action in the final episodes, I think that this could happen, too.

I Want Hopper To Have A Comedic Stranger Things Season 5 Storyline

SinceHopper almost died inStranger Thingsseason 4and spent time in Russia after being captured,I want him to have a comedicStranger Thingsseason 5 plotline. I think it’s about time that the beloved character had some fun and would love to see him go back to his roots. Although Hopper is dealing with family trauma in the first season of the Netflix series,Hopper says a lot of hilarious quoteswhen fans are first introduced to him. He’s a gruff, stubborn small-town sheriff who doesn’t trust anyone and doesn’t suffer fools. Without even trying to, he makes hilarious statements like"Mornings are for coffee and contemplation.“He’s so funny because he doesn’t think that he is.

I hopeHopper and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) will stay togetherin the final season of the popular series. I think they could have a funny rom-com-style plotline that shows their relationship is back on track. Perhaps Hopper plans a big engagement that goes horribly wrong. He could enlist one of the younger characters and they could accidentally lose the ring or spoil the surprise for Joyce. Sincethe characters are going to be so busy fighting Vecna, it would be fun to see a side plotline like a sweet but chaotic proposal. I want to laugh at how goofy and silly Hopper can be when he isn’t worried about Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) or Joyce.

I’d also like to see Hopper joking around with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery)or another character. Maybe they could come up with a plan to battle Vecna and could go off on a journey together. SinceVecna has a creepy process of choosing victimsand is so dangerous, I think a funny side plot featuring Hopper would be a great contrast.

Most of all,I don’t want Hopper to get trapped in the Upside Down or come close to death again. WithMax Mayfield’s (Sadie Sink) fate up in the air,Stranger Thingsseason 5 is going to be emotional enough. I don’t want to see Hopper in pain yet again. I think that his season 4 arc was powerful and effective, but the show should allow him to have some fun.

What Did David Harbour Say About Playing Hopper On Stranger Things?

David Harbour has discussed playing Jim Hopper onStranger Thingsat length in more than a few interviews, and he always has something engaging to say. He has also talked about the dark parts of Hopper’s life.

In an interview withNME.comin 2019,Habour talked about the loss and grief his character experiencedbefore the events ofStranger Things. He said:

“The guy lost his daughter. But five years has passed. He’s developed this shtick to be able to live. I was interested in what it was like to see that guy in a supermarket five years after he lost his daughter as opposed to a month. So part of that is the layers of cover over that tragedy.”

Harbour addressedHopper’s darkStranger Thingsseason 4 storylinein an interview with1883 Magazine.

“He does have a resurrection. While he doesn’t actually die, he does accept death. He sacrifices himself so, in a way, he is being resurrected. His arc is shedding the layers of gunk he’s developed as a result of traumatic events happening to him and that starts by being resurrected. At the beginning of the season, he’s in the darkest place we’ve ever seen.”
