Stranger Thingshas kept its fanbase firmly glued to their seats throughout its four seasons, with plenty of tears, horror, and laughter, but it seems as though it will be an even bigger emotional journey for its fifth and final season, according to David Harbour. The epicNetflixsci-fi show has been gearing up for its big season five finale in 2025, and it’s clear that it’s going to be one heck of a rollercoaster for the town of Hawkins, and the rest of the gang.
After filming forthe Netflix series was postponeddue to the WGA writers strike and SAG-AFTRA strike, the wheels of time began to thankfully tick over once more as shooting for season five ofStranger Thingsbegan in January, which was a huge relief to many.Stranger Thingsseason five is undoubtedly one of television’s most highly anticipated shows and, since Vecna tore open a huge portal to the Upside Down, anything can happen to the heroic gang of Hawkins as they, for one last time, team up for their most dangerous and biggest battle yet as they face even more savage monsters, confront intense emotions, and bring evil to its knees for good (hopefully).
David Harbour Teases Stranger Things Season 5’s ‘Moving’ Ending
In an interview with Screen Rant, David Harbour, who playsJim Hopper in the Netflix science fiction seriesStranger Things, revealed some teases about season five’s ending. While promoting his new DC animated Max series,Creature Commandos, Harbour said that they are currently filming at the end of season five, which will tie up a lot of the show’s relationships, but also revealed that this particular section has been “the most moving” for him. Going slightly more in-depth about what moved him, all he could say was that a certain scene made him say “Wow, this really resonates on such a deep level.'
Without giving too much away, Harbour also states thatStranger Thingsseason five’s endingwill be a “rich, satisfying meal”, but couldn’t disclose whether the outcome will be happy or sad, but it would “definitely be satisfying” for fans. Harbour chatted more about the cast and how it all “resonates” because they have been working together for over ten years, so they have all become “very special” to each other. “We’re in a place where we’re comfortable enough to be able to allow each other this humanity, and it’s special. It’s very special.”
It’s good, it’s been a very long push. We’ve been shooting for a long time, and it’s big, really big. And we’re getting to the end, so we’re getting into a lot of that meaty end stuff, which ties up a lot of these relationships. It really gives this very rich, satisfying meal, which I won’t tell you whether it’s happy or sad, [or] what it is at the end of it, but it definitely will be satisfying.”
In addition to whatever happens at the end ofStranger Things' final episode, it seems as though the heartbreak and struggle will certainly continue all the way through season five. The final season could also see it rival some ofStranger Things' saddest and intensely emotional moments, but most fans of the series will be hoping there won’t be a repeat ofthatEddie Munson scene.Stranger Thingsseason five will air sometime in 2025.
