There have been announcements in the past that a24 Moviewas in the works, but it has always fallen through at the final hurdle.However, the official announcement in July 2024 felt significant after over 10 years without Jack Bauer.24: Live Another Dayfailed to give Jack Bauer a proper send-off, so it always felt like he might come back for at least one more very bad day. In the current television landscape,24 episodesin a season doesn’t work, and the 12 episodes featured in 2014’s limited series also didn’t do justice to thereal-time formatof24, so a movie version was the most logical next step. Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer is behind the latest attempt to bring24to theaters, and he explained why it hadn’t previously come to fruition in aninterview with Deadlineback in 2017,
It just worked better for television. We couldn’t really find the right world to put it in, the right location. To base it in America seemed not very authentic, whereas to do a TV show in America was the perfect bridge. We put it in European countries, but it wasn’t working there with the economics. We couldn’t find enough money to make it. So we couldn’t find the right location, we couldn’t find the right story, and it was always too expensive.
Even though it appears the creative team have found a way to make24work on the big screen, these comments are still a worry for fans as it just highlights the previous issues.If fans don’t get an update soon, there are plenty of other action franchises to keep them interested, and Jack Bauer might finally be put to rest.
No News Could Be Good News For The 24 Movie As The Creative Team Are Potentially Taking Their Time To Get It Right
Fans have waited over 10 years for more Jack Bauer adventures, so there is an eagerness to find out more about the progress of the24 Movie. However,there is a high probability that the lack of updates could actually be a good thing, and the creative team are working hard behind the scenesto make sure the movie is the best it can possibly be. Unlike Jack Bauer’s thwarting ofglobal terrorist threatsin the show, there is no actual time constraint for the release of the24 Movie. Having said that, now that fans know it’s supposed to be happening, the clock is ticking in many ways.
It would be much worse to wait over 10 years for the24 Movie, and then have it be a total disaster due to a rushed production. But,surely there could be a few little teases to get fans engaged and hyped for the movie while they wait,but currently, there is absolutely nothing. A simple social media post with the iconic ticking clock, followed by a re-assurance that24is on its way to theaters would be good. Or, an official announcement thatKiefer Sutherlandis returning to the role would blow up the internet. If something like this doesn’t happen soon, doubts will start to creep in over whether the24 Movieis actually even happening anymore.
