The Batmangot rave reviews when it hit theaters and streaming because it seemed to offer a rather grounded view of a younger version of Bruce Wayne and the Dark Knight. Pattinson, who played the titular character took the mantle from Ben Affleck, who was a relatively popular version of the character in the DCEU but with the reboot fully underway with the arrival of James Gunn, Pattinson is now the banner carrier, at least until Gunn announces who will play the DCU version of Batman. Originally, fans of the famed detective and crime fighter were expecting toseeThe Batman Part 2in 2026, though that’s no longer the plan.
The Batman Part 2 Gets Booted Back One Year
Deadlinereported earlier on Friday that The Batman Part 2 was officially moved to a 2027 release date. He cited a familiar reason for the delay, taking toThreadsto say that the script still isn’t complete. He want on to make it clear that this isn’t a situation where Warner Bros. or Gunn has any crisis of confidence about the movie, it’s simply a matter of where the project is inproduction without a finished script.
“Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films."
The update is far from a huge surprise, considering there have been rumors and whispers about a delay since earlier this fall. There even had been some rumors thatThe Batman Part 2had been officially canceled. However, those rumors never made a ton of sense considering the success ofThe Penguinas a standalone series on HBO Max.
