Summary

The Forestis a challenging survivalhorror game, taking place on an island inhabited by cannibals. The game starts with the player surviving a plane crash, but they are the only survivor of this accident. They must then find a way to survive and thrive in a very dangerous environment.

Weapon upgrades inThe Foresttake two forms. First are permanent upgrades, each of which takes up some of the weapons upgrade potential. Different upgrades can be mixed and matched to fine-tune weapon stats. Second are temporary upgrades, which have a set number of charges, or last for a specific duration. Using the right weapon upgrades can make combat much easier in thissurvival game.

The Forest Speed Upgrade

TheSpeed Weapon UpgradeinThe Forestis not terrible, but there are better upgrades that it can be balanced with. Players often refer to these as feather upgrades, rather than speed upgrades. Yes, it speeds up the attacks of a weapon, but that comes at a cost. Applying the speed upgrade will lower the overall damage of a weapon.

That being said, some weapons really need a little more speed, so it comes down to player choice whether they use some of the upgrade potential of a weapon to speed it up a little. Thecrafting requirementsare low, and it is an easy upgrade to make.

The Forest Damage Upgrade

Sometimes known as teeth upgrades, theDamage Weapon UpgradeinTheForestis the other basicweapon stat upgrade, alongside the speed mod that was covered above. It is a little harder to craft than the speed upgrade, as it needs teeth, which are tougher to farm.

As with the speed upgrade, there is a downside to the weapon damage upgrade inThe Forest. It raises damage, but at the same time, it lowers the weapon’s speed. Once again, it comes down to player choice as to how they balance the speed and damage of their weapons using these two basic upgrades.

The Forest Poison Upgrade

ThePoison Weapon Upgradehas exactly the same damage over time effect as poison arrows do inThe Forest. They also slow down how fast an enemy can move, and also lower the enemy’s attack speed. A great use for a poison upgrade is for hunting large game, as the slow effect makes animals much easier to chase and catch.

Only weapons with a blade orpiercing weaponscan have the poison weapon upgrade applied to them. Something else to keep in mind is that any use of the weapon will use up charges of the poison upgrade. For example, applying it to an axe and then using that axe to chop down trees will use up the poison upgrade.

The Forest Fire Upgrade

Simply wrapping some cloth around an applicable weapon inThe Forestmeans it can be set alight by using the cigarette lighter, which is standard respawn equipment in the game. Once the weapon is burning with theFire Weapon Upgrade, it has a chance of setting enemies on fire until it goes out.

Adding more cloth to a weapon will extend the amount of time it burns for, by resetting the timer for the buff. Swinging a weapon lowers the burn timer, so it is best to only swing when a hit is assured. Unequipping the weapon leaves the timer in place, and the weapon can be relit once it is re-equiped. If the weapon gets wet and goes out, the time stops, meaning the weapon can then be relit once it stops raining, or the player leaves the water they were swimming in.

The Forest Damage+ Upgrade-1

Players often call this the booze upgrade. TheDamage+ Upgrade, as the name suggests, gives a betterdamage bonusthan the standard damage upgrade inThe Forest. The glass shards that are made from sap and booze, when applied to a weapon, add twice the damage bonus as the standard upgrade.

However, this upgrade is a lot harder to craft due to the booze requirement, and once again, applying this damage upgrade will lower the weapon’s speed. The player must decide how they want to balance their weapon upgrades to make their weapon the most effective.

The Forest Flashlight Upgrade

At the top of this list is theWeapon Flashlight Upgrade. The Forestis a very dark game at night, almost too much so at times, making combat or hunting at night a real challenge. The flashlight upgrade solves this problem.

This is a permanent upgrade, but it is pretty tough to craft. Finding a flashlight and some electrical tape will mean exploring some of the more dangerous POIs. However, this is a transformational weapon upgrade and makes the game a lot easier when it gets dark.
