The Binding of Isaac: Rebirthoffers playersa roguelike 2D experiencein which they must survive the trials of Isaac’s mother’s basement. 8Lazarus
One Who Rises From The Dead
For players looking for a bit of help, Lazarus might be the ideal choice. Once dead, like his namesake, herises once morefor a second chance. When he’s revived, players will start where they succumbed to death. In his second life, Lazarus will also have stronger base stats.
To unlock Lazarus, players will need to have at leastfour soul hearts during one single run.In his original form, he starts with three red hearts and a random pill pickup. When revived, Lazarus will have one red heart. Upon respawning, he will also leave a trail behind him that causes damage to any enemies that get close enough.
7Samson
Increases Damage With Every Hit Taken
It’s pretty challenging to make it through any floor in this game without taking damage. Samson more than makes up for that by dishing out even more damage with every hit he takes. This damage boost will remain active the entire time he remains on the floor, resetting only when he progresses to the next.
Players will need to learn how to balance taking damage with dealing damage to ensure Samson makes it through a run alive. This character starts with three red hearts, but also has theChild’s Heartpickup, enabling him to find a heart pickup more easily at the end of a room. When used correctly, this can make a player’s run hugely successful. Samson can be unlocked bycompleting two floors whiletaking no damage.
6Magdalene
More Hearts In Exchange For Slower Speed
Magdalene isn’t the greatest when it comes to speed, but she makes up for it with her four hearts. In addition, she starts with theYum Heart, which will restore one of those hearts. Players can complete the April Fools challenge toincrease her speedand unlock a full health pill. With these modifications, Maggie is much more adaptable to dangerous situations.
To unlock this character, players will need to haveseven or more red heart containers during a single run. Unlocking her improved stats is key, as she’s more prone to taking damage with her low base speed.
5Judas
A Risky Venture
Players who are up for taking a risk should opt for Judas. While this character starts with one red heart, he also has high damage, making him a potential powerhouse when it comes totaking down enemies. He also starts with the Book of Belial, which will increase his damage by 2 for that room, as well as increasing the player’s chance of finding angel or devil rooms.
Judas depends a lot on finding items that will increase his total heart container count, but players will often find that his damage potential against tougher enemies and bosses is well worth the inconvenience. Players can unlock this character the first time theydefeat Satan.
4Eve
High Damage Potential
At first glance, Eve doesn’t look that impressive. With just two heart containers and a base damage stat of 1, she actually looks pretty weak. However, she starts with a couple of key items that can quickly turn things around. The Dead Bird will attack an enemy once Eve takes damage, and the Whore of Babylon will boost her speed and damage once she falls to a half heart.
Eve can be unlocked when playersbeat two floors without picking up any heart items, including soul or demon hearts. A helpful tip for doing this is to use either Magdalene or Isaac on the first two floors, as they have decent health and can survive better than many other characters.
3Isaac
The Underrated Hero
Isaac is unlocked from the startand is essentially the underrated hero of the game. He doesn’t seem like much, but he is a solid choice, especially when there’s no other option. When players first start the game, Isaac will have one bomb to start a run. It’s only later that he becomes a bit more exceptional.
Players will need to beat the Isaac boss with the character ??? to unlock the D6 item. Once that’s completed, Isaac will always start with the D6 and will have the ability to reroll any pedestal item in a given room. This item can be a huge game-changer, especially for those situations when the original items are not what Isaac needs.
2Cain
More Pickups More Often
Cain is pretty average when looking at his base stats, but it’s his items that make him unique. He starts with one key and a Lucky Foot. The Lucky Foot increases his ability to find pickups after clearing rooms. Players who have theAfterbirthDLC can also unlock the Paperclip, which allows Cain to open all chests without a key.
To make the most out of Cain, players will need to find items tobuild his healthand damage. He can be unlocked by having55 or more coins in one run.He’s not the best choice for beginners, but once players are more adjusted to the game’s mechanics, he’s an awesome option.
1Azazel
The Power Of Brimstone And Flight
Azazel doesn’t start with regular heart containers, but instead has three black ones. However, he can obtain red ones throughout the course of a run. What’s most notable about this character is his Brimstone shot andability to fly. Players can take advantage of devil rooms where they can obtain soul hearts in exchange for regular ones.
Azazel starts a run with the Fool Tarot Card active. He can be unlocked bypurchasing three items from the devil rooms in a single run.Players can increase his range with items they pick up along the way, making him even more effective.
