He’s not the only one, however, with Carmine’s daughter Sofia (Cristin Milioti) and his rival Sal Maroni also attempting to gain control of Gotham’s underworld.The Penguinlasted eight episodes and was widely acclaimed by both critics and fans, establishing the series in the upper echelon of superhero TV series to date.
The Penguin Earns First Award Nominations
Awards season is starting to heat up for another year with the first nominations from theCritics Choice Awardshighlighting the best TV series from the past year. The list includes four nominations forThe Penguin, which marks the beginning of what is sure to be a long awards season. The series gained a nomination for Best Limited Series, and three cast members also earned nominations for their roles, including Farrell, Milioti, and Deirdre O’Connell (Francis Cobb). The Penguinfaces strong competition in each of its categories. In the Best Limited Series category, it’s up againstBaby Reindeer, True Detective: Night Country, Disclaimer, Masters of the Air, Mr Bates vs the Post Office, We Were the Lucky Ones,andRipley. Farrell faces Richard Gadd, Tom Hollander, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, and Andrew Scott in his category, while Milioti is up against Cate Blanchett, Jodie Foster, Jessica Lange, Phoebe-Rae Taylor, and Naomi Watts. O’Connell’s competition is Dakota Fanning, Leila George, Betty Gilpin, Jessica Gunning, and Kali Reis.
How Far Will The Penguin Go in Awards Season?
The Critics Choice Awards are just the first of a long line of nominationsThe Penguinis bound to receive. The 2025 Golden Globe nominees are set to be announced in the next week andThe Penguinhas a good chanceof picking up a nomination or two there. Additionally, there are the Hollywood Guild awards (Writers, Directors, Producers, and Screen Actors) that the series may receive recognition at, as well as the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards which will take place in September next year. If the series wins any of its awards it will be a major success for the comic book genre on TV, particularly on the DC side.
