The Penguin Season 2 Addressed By Producers

Earlier this week the producers and stars ofThe Penguinattended the Golden Globe Awards wherethe series was nominated three times. On the red carpet before the ceremony, three of the producers ofThe Penguincommented on whether there might be more from the show. Showrunner Lauren LeFranc addressed thatThe Penguinwas only intended to be a limited series, but didn’t rule out future possibilities.“We were meant to be a limited series, so I’m really proud of the first season and the story that we made. There’s more stories to tell there, for sure, if we can find the right idea or the right characters,”she toldScreen Rant.

There’s more stories to tell there, for sure, if we can find the right idea or the right characters.

Producer andThe Batmandirector Matt Reeves said something similar to The Hollywood Reporter, emphasizing another season would rely on the idea and the timing of filming onThe Batman Part 2.“We are talking about doing another season… it’s really about coming up with the right idea and also about the timing… but we’re really excited about doing another season and we just have to figure out exactly the right idea,“he said. This sentiment was echoed a third time by anotherThe Penguinproducer, Dylan Clark, who toldTV Lineon the Golden Globes red carpet that “quiet conversations” were happening about another season with HBO.“If we could come up with an idea for what a second season might be, there’s a chance that Casey Bloys and the HBO team would want to pursue that… There have been quiet conversations about that,”he said.

While it’s clear thatThe Penguinwas intended to be a one-and-done (and has been submitted as such in all the relevant awards categories), the immensely positive reception that the series has received could be key to more seasons. WhileThe Penguinleft Oz and the other characters in a satisfactory place, there is room for the series to continue their stories. Farrell is already expected to reprise his role inThe Batman Part 2, which could potentially set up more story for the character in a second season.Milioti’s Sofia was also leftwith a loose plot thread that could pave the way for more story for the character as she connects with her sister, Selina Kyle (Zoe Kravitz). Wherever the producers choose to take the story, it’s clear that audiences are hungry for more out of Reeves’The Batmanuniverse andThe Penguincould be an established format for more successful stories in this world.
