Even before Disney took over, many of the games were devoted to giving players force powers or letting them run wild with lightsabers. ButStar Wars Outlawschanged that.
Instead of giving players a lightsaber,Star Wars Outlawshas put them in the shoes of a scoundrel and let them make their mark on the galaxy. On top of that, the game is thefirst truly open-world AAAStar Warsadventurethat players have gotten. Even if the story and some of the gameplay have not matched the heights of other titles, that concept alone makes for something truly special. And even if Ubisoft may have to take a break fromStar Wars, theStar Wars Outlawsconcept will hopefully not go away anytime soon.
There is So Much More That the Gaming Industry Could Do With the Star Wars Universe
Of course, force users have always been the main focus of theStar Warsfranchise since its inception.OutsideRogue OneandSolo, every single live-action film has put force users front and center. Additionally, the majority of the shows have either involved the force or followed a force user as they fight their way through the galaxy. That has been the trend forever, so when a title likeStar Wars Outlawscomes around, it feels extremely refreshing.
With some fixes and polish,theStar Wars Outlawsconceptcould lead to something truly special for fans of the franchise. They could take on the role of a scoundrel, work alongside some of the most infamous pirates and gangs, and make a name for themselves among the stars. Ubisoft has come close to delivering that very thing, and hopefully, someone will be able to take the idea even further.
It remains to be seen if Ubisoft is done withStar Wars Outlawsor if it will attempt it again after the post-launch DLC comes to a close. If it ends up moving on, the concept will hopefully not die out. Many fans are yearning for a different type of experience, and a game exploring the criminal underworld is exactly that. Even if it ends up being on a smaller scale, the potential alone could lead to something truly special.
