The mastermind behind Cintra’s fall, Vilgefortz of Rogeveen, was killed by Geralt and his friends. It is implied in one ofThe Witcher 3endings that Emhyr Var Emrheis, The White Flame that dances over the graves of his enemies, didn’t survive a coup d’état orchestrated by the former Emperor’s loyalists. However, it is possible that this isn’t what actually happened, even if Cirilla didn’t fulfill her role as the rightful heir of the Empire.
Emhyr Var Emhreis is crafty and resourceful. Before becoming Emperor, he was able to escape captivity three times and marry one of the daughters of the Northern Realms royalty. And though this was mere manipulation by people interested in seeing the results of their cross-breeding (Ciri), it was proof of Emhyr’s iron-willed nature. It is possible that he is still alive and kicking.
