This year’s Game Awards were stacked with major announcements, and the first look atThe Witcher 4brought a jaw-dropping cinematic trailer to audiences. In this new chapter, Ciri takes on the protagonist role, continuing Geralt’s legacy. Based on the announcement trailer,The Witcher 4brings a more mature and skilled version of Ciri into the spotlight, promising a fascinating new story.
The eerie atmosphere ofThe Witcher 4’s first sneak peek makes it clear that CD Projekt Red has more harrowing monster encounters in store for players. While getting to seeThe Witcher’s Ciri in actionagainst the spider-like beast in the trailer is thrilling,The Witcher 4can hopefully deliver on the size of its monsters. The many monsters players have to face inThe Witcherfranchise can present some tough challenges. Still,TheWitcher 4’s teased beasts are hopefully just as intimidating as they look in its cinematic announcement.

The Witcher 4’s Monsters Need to Live Up to Expectations
CD Projekt Red Confirms the Name of the Monster Featured in the Trailer
Inan interview with IGN,Witcher 4game director Sebastian Kalemba confirmed the name of the monster that Ciri fights in the trailer. The creature is called Bauk, and according to Kalembda, it’s a force to be reckoned with. In the interview, Kalemba states, “He has this ability to smell your fear, to be able to play with your traumas, to paralyze you.” Based on this statement alone, the Bauk could prove to be one ofThe Witcherfranchise’s most terrifying monsters. That wasn’t all the information Kalemba shared about the Bauk, though.
According to the interview, CD Projekt Red was heavily inspired byCyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLCwhen designing the Bauk. Citing Phantom Liberty’s Chimera tank boss, Kalemba claims Bauk is the result of what developers learned from working on such large enemy types. “The Chimera was a very, very good lesson on our path when it comes to designing big creatures,” he states.

There is no official release date or time frame forThe Witcher 4at this time.
This statement is incredibly promising, as it leads one to believe that at least some of the monsters featured inThe Witcher 4will be the biggest the franchise has seen yet. The Bauk was massive, and as more information comes out about the action RPG, it will be fascinating to see if there are monsters that are even more intimidating. While Ciri serves as this new era’s protagonist,Geralt will still be inThe Witcher’s picture, just not as much.

The Official Wait For The Witcher’s New Era Begins
Although theories and speculation predicted a Ciri-ledWitchergame, nothing had been made official until The Game Awards.CD Projekt Red’s secrecysurrounding the project has finally come to an end, but there is still a long road ahead, unfortunately. With no release target announced,The Witcher 4could still be a long time away. On the bright side, though, CD Projekt Red’s past withCyberpunk 2077has likely taught the studio to not announce games too early, which could be a promising indication of how far alongThe Witcher 4is.
Only time will tell whatThe Witcher 4has in store, but the game has already made a strong impression with its heart-pounding teaser. As time passes, moreWitcher 4newswill hopefully arrive sooner rather than later with even more monster sneak peeks and possible hints at what gameplay will ultimately look like.
