Summary
Tom Holland shared the hilarious story of how he found out that he was MCU’s newSpider-Man. The actor shared that he initially thought he already lost his dream role to someone else.
Holland is probably the most successful actor to playSpider-Manbecause he was initially slated to star in a trilogy, but would return for a fourth movie. The Marvel star somewhat manifested the role by sharing in previous interviews how Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s portrayal inspired him and that he wanted to beSpider-Man, too. Holland underwent a rigorous audition process for the role and even performed alongsideRobert Downey Jr. (Iron Man)and Chris Evans (Captain America) during screen tests. In a recent interview, theUnchartedstar shared how he got the news that he was the newestSpider-Man.

Holland sat down for an interview with Dish for its Christmas special podcast episode, and during the conversation, he revisited the time he found out he was the newest web-slinger superhero. “I found out on Instagram. Marvel had posted a picture ofSpider-Man, and it said something like, ‘Go to our website to find out who the nextSpider-Manis,'” Holland shared. “Now, at this point, I’ve been waiting maybe six weeks to find out whether I’ve got it. And obviously at that point, you go, ‘I didn’t get it’ because they would’ve called me. They’d have a little bit of respect,” he jokingly added.
“And I went on their website and it said, ‘We’re proud to announce that our nextSpider-Manis Tom Holland’ and I remember slamming my computer down and sort of sitting there,'” Holland continued. “I called my agents. They had heard the news. They didn’t even know. And then thePresident of the studiocalled me up and gave me the news as if I didn’t know.” When the interviewer asked Holland if he played along and acted like he didn’t know he was just cast for his dream role, the actor said, “No.” He jokingly explained that they had also probably known that he already had an idea because he was 18 at the time and was “scouring the internet.”
Holland’s revelation was quite hilarious because it turned out that he learned about his casting like the rest of the people – by waiting for an announcement from Marvel Studios. Marvel could have called him before making the announcement on its website to inform him before the rest of the world, or they could do it just how they did it. The manner of the announcement and letting Holland know about his casting is not really a big deal because there was only one message, and it was clear – Holland was the newSpider-Man. Some joked that it was probably the reason Holland had been a big spoiler forMCUbecause they didn’t let him know about the casting before announcing it.
Anyway, Holland was a perfect pick for the role. Aside from his acting prowess, he is a skilled gymnast and can do flips and stunts. According to previous reports, the filmmakers were impressed with the physicality he could bring toSpider-Man. He was also the youngest actor cast for the role and his performance received thumbs-up from the audience because he captured the duality of Peter Parker andSpider-Manafter the blip in Infinity War. Holland also portrays the character’s youthful nature and Peter’s awkwardness, humor, and vulnerability before he wears his superhero mask. There is no question why Marvel fans want more of him. However,Spider-Man 4’s scriptis reportedly still in the works because Marvel President Kevin Feige did not approve of it.
Spider-Man 4will hit theaters on July 01, 2025.
