Developer Larian Studios has confirmed that it is moving on fromBaldur’s Gate 3to focus on a new, currently undisclosed project. However, there will be at least one more major patch releasing some time in 2025. This patch will add a long-awaited photo mode, cross-play functionality, and twelve new subclasses. Aside from this,Baldur’s Gate 3players can likely look forward to continuing merchandise collaborations and possiblyDungeons and Dragonsone-shots featuring the characters.
What’s Coming In Baldur’s Gate 3’s Final Major Patch
2024 sawBaldur’s Gate 3receive an official modding tool, which players have used for everything from adding new classes to renaming Withers “Bone Daddy.” In 2025, the game will receive one more major patch, Patch 8, which will add several other highly anticipated features to the game.
First,cross-play will become available inBaldur’s Gate 3, with full cross-progression among all platforms. Players will be able to use the Larian Network system to search for and join available multiplayer lobbies, or to invite their friends on all platforms to private lobbies where they can adventure together.
Second,Patch 8 will bring a Photo Mode toBG3, allowing players to take snapshots of their favorite companions anywhere in Faerun. A post by Larian Studios described in detail the various camera settings, lens settings, scene settings, and post-processing effects that will be available. Plus, there will be a wide variety of frames and stickers that players can use to add extra flair to their photos. Stickers will include emojis, cat ears, blood splatter, and much more. Players will also be able to pose characters in their party to create the perfect badass after-action pose or sweet romantic encounter.
Twelve New Subclasses Will Be Added
In addition to cross-play and photo mode,Baldur’s Gate 3will be adding twelve new subclasses - one for each of the classes in the game. These classes are primarily drawn fromexistingDungeons and Dragonsmaterials, but feature some tweaking to best fitBaldur’s Gate 3’sgameplay and setting. The new subclasses are:
Potential Merchandise And Cast Appearances
2024 also saw several officialBaldur’s Gate 3merchandise collaborations, including the release ofFunko Pop toys of certainBG3companions. In 2025, officialDungeons and Dragonsminiatures of the party members will be released. Other official merchandise collaborations haven’t been announced but are definitely possible.
Finally, the cast ofBaldur’s Gate 3may continue appearing at conventions and fan events. Previous appearances have led to severalDungeons and Dragonsone-shots with the actors reprising their roles. These typically comedic adventures have included Wyll and Lae’zel training newbie heroes, Astarion and Karlach getting involved in a spat between two dragons, and more. Similar events could continue to occur at conventions in 2025, especially with the continued support ofDungeons and DragonspublisherWizards of the Coast.
