Summary
Magic: The Gatheringfans have a lot to look forward to this year, and despite some controversies regarding the addition of Universes Beyond sets to Constructed formats like Standard, 2025 will see multiple big releases for the TCG. There is a clear schedule for most of 2025 right now, though changes may happen, and some sets and products may still be announced at a later date. So far,Magic: The Gatheringwill start 2025 with a bang by releasing two sets back to back, starting in late January and then following up with the first Standard-legal release in mid-February.
Starting strong is Innistrad Remastered, which will take players back to one of the most beloved planes in the game’s history.Magic: The Gathering’s Headliner cards will debut in Innistrad Remastered and are supposed to be printed throughout 2025 with every major set, with the first being a special version of Edgar Markov.

Innistrad Remastered Prerelease events will start on July 19, 2025.
Aetherdrift - July 05, 2025
The second set of the year is Aetherdrift, which takes place across three different planes and features 10 teams competing in a death race to acquire the ultimate prize - the Aetherspark. The Aetherspark is also Aetherdrift’s Headliner card, following Edgar Markov. Aetherdrift will be the firstStandard-legal set of 2025, and it’s sure to shake up the gameplay meta in Constructed formats. The set will also launch onMagic: The Gathering Arena, as per tradition.
Aetherdrift products will include:
Tarkir: Dragonstorm - June 08, 2025
Another set that will take fans back to a familiar place is Tarkir: Dragonstorm, which will visit an alternate-timeline version of Tarkir, where the infamousMTGPlaneswalker Sarkhan Volreset time to an era where dragons reign supreme. The set will bring backMagic: The Gathering’s wedges, three-way color combinations that include Jeskai (Blue, Red, and White), Sultai (Blue, Black, and Green), Temur (Blue, Red, and Green), Abzan (Black, Green, and White), and Mardu (Red, Black, and White).
WotC confirmed that there will be manyDragon Creaturesin this set, too, and clans won’t be entirely gone. It’s unclear, however, what kind of products will be available in Tarkir: Dragonstorm, but the final line-up will most likely be the same as Aetherdrift.

MTG x Final Fantasy Universes Beyond Set - May 14, 2025
The firstMagic: The GatheringUniverses Beyond setof 2025 is themed around Final Fantasy characters, items, and locations from the entire mainline series of games, up until Final Fantasy 16. SinceMTG’s UB sets will be Standard-legal in 2025, it’s possible that they will also come with pre-constructed Eternal decks and more products, like main sets.
Edge of Eternities - July 08, 2025
The third and lastMagicUniverseset of the year will be Edge of Eternities, a space-opera release that has been in discussion at Wizards of the Coast for a long time. Exploring space will come with cards themed around planets and alien civilizations, but little is known about the set so far. It will include classic sci-fi elements like spaceships, though, and it will mark the return of the recurring villain Tezzeret.
A picture of what appears to beMTG’s Headliner cardfor Edge of Eternities was posted online, and it features what seems like a supermassive black hole called Sothera, The Supervoid.

MTG x Spider-Man Universes Beyond Set - TBA
Magic: The Gathering’s Spider-Man setis currently slated for a 2025 launch, but no release window or release date has been provided so far. This set is mostly shrouded in mystery for the time being, but it will most likely have a full-fledged set of products, including multipleMTGCommander decks and themed bundles. The most likely outcome is that this set will be fully revealed in Q2 of 2025 and then released at some point between September and October.
MTG’s Spider-Man set is part of a wider, multi-year Marvel crossover that will seemingly include more projects in the future. There was a Marvel x MTG Secret Lair drop in 2024, and it’s likely more will be done in 2025.
Unannounced MTG Universes Beyond Set and More
Last but not least, Wizards of the Coast has announced a third Universes Beyond set forMTGthat will be released at some point in 2025. However, this crossover has yet to be revealed, and fans don’t know what the theme will be. It’s hard to predict, too, but it will most likely be a prominent IP within the games industry. If the Spider-Man set indeed takes place in the fall of this year, the third and final 2025 UB set will most likely be revealed between Q2 and Q3, and then released sometime between November and December.
Finally,Magic: The Gathering Arena’s codes, events, and game modes will be better supported or get more additions. Most of the 2025 sets will also be available on the TCG’s online portal.
