Some upgrade materials inNieR: Automataare much more difficult to find than others. While many of them aredropped from defeated enemies, some are only found through drops that naturally appear in the overworld. These naturally spawning items won’t always be the same thing, so there is always an element of RNG when farming these items.

Filler Metal is one of the upgrade materials that you will need to find in the overworld if you want to get some earlier into the game, though be prepared for a long trip. If you’re later in the game, Filler Metal can be purchased for a bit of a steep price, though this way be the easier method if you have the money.

Where To Find Filler Metal In NieR: Automata

Filler Metal is arare find from item spawn locations deep in the Factory. The exact location will vary every time you run through the factory, and Filler Metal has the lowest chance of spawning compared to other things you’ll pick up along the way. After going back to the factory for the main story, you can unlock the Factory: Hanger access point and fast travel to it, with this being the ideal starting point for checking out the factory since it’s already a good way in.

Depending onwhere you’re at in the story, you’ll need to go back and unlock the Factory: Hanger access point again.

While movement speed bonuses can make this farming process a bit easier, you won’t be able to reliably farm Filler Metal at any point in the game. Simply running through the factory and picking up everything you see that spawned naturally is your best bet. The most straightforward way of getting a lot will be to buy it.

Where To Buy Filler Metal In NieR: Automata

The only place you can buy Filler Metal is from theShopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park but only after getting one of thefinal endings to the game, meaning you’ll have to beat all three playthroughs. After beating the game, going back to this Shopkeeper using Chapter Select will have its new inventory in stock, selling Filler Metal for 11,250 G a piece.

While this seems like a steep cost, it is a much more reliable method than running through the Factory multiple times, and the Pod upgrades that need Filler Metal are necessary to beat the game, as enemies won’t comenear the max level.
