Fewer gaming franchises are more popular on the rumor mill thanThe Legend of Zelda. Being that it’s one of the most popular and beloved series in gaming - and one that has redefined gaming conventions more times than not - it’s no surprise thatThe Legend of Zeldais consistently in high demand. Whether it’s brand-new games or re-releases of classic titles, fans are constantly awaiting Nintendo’s next move with the series.

Rumors have hit a fever pitch thatThe Legend of Zelda: Wind WakerandThe Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, both of which receivedHD re-releases on the Wii U, will make their way back out. They could serve as either late-generation Nintendo Switch games, or Switch 2 holdovers while Nintendo builds the next proper entry in the series. That said, while these would be welcome re-releases, Nintendo should complete the Triforce with one other re-release to go alongside it.

Nintendo Should Give Four Swords Adventures The HD Treatment

BeyondWind Waker HDandTwilight Princess HD, Nintendo should consider givingThe Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventuresan HD re-release. After all, it is the only otherGameCubeZeldagame, and Nintendo hasn’t made much of a previous effort to re-release it. Now could be the perfect time to bring this game back for a brand-new audience of Nintendo fans.

AidingFour Swords Adventures’ case is that it’s a vastly different take onZeldacompared to the other GameCube titles. Being a game centered around multiplayer gameplay, this title managed to carve out its own niche and bring something unique to a franchise that naturally comes with incredibly high standards. It’s achieved some level of “forgotten gem” status among theZeldafranchise, and withNintendo’s recent revivals of seemingly dormant titles,Four Swords Adventurescould very well be the next in line.

Four Swords Adventures HD Could Be A Unique Zelda Title

A re-release ofFour Swords Adventureson the Switch (or Switch 2) would also be fantastic, as it would bring the game a larger audience than it originally had. While the original GameCube title sold well enough to join Nintendo’s “Player’s Choice” line, series producer Eiji Aonuma acknowledged that the game’s mandatoryuse of the Game Boy Advance Link Cablecut into its sales.Four Swords Adventuresis an enjoyable game regardless of the Link Cable, meaning Nintendo can focus on bringing it back on the Switch without the gimmicks.

Furthermore, as the game is already multiplayer-centric, Nintendo could do something unique with an HD re-release by adding online multiplayer capabilities. Up to this point, 2015’sThe Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroesis the only entry in the series tofeature online multiplayer. It’s largely uncharted territory for the franchise, butTri Force Heroesshowed Nintendo’s willingness to experiment with the style, and the lessons learned from that could greatly aid an HD re-release ofFour Swords Adventures.

A GameCube Zelda Bundle Would Do Wonders For Nintendo

Nintendo also has a prime opportunity withFour Swords Adventures HD, as the publisher could bundle it together with theWind Waker HDandTwilight Princess HDre-releases as a GameCubeZeldacollection. Previously, there was an air of disappointment that Nintendo didn’t put together a propercollection forZelda’s 35th anniversaryin 2021, especially after theSuper Mariofranchise got a collection for its anniversary a year prior. Nintendo could rectify that here, while also giving new players a chance to experience a game they may have missed out on before.

As of right now, it’s hard to tell if Nintendo is truly going to bring its previousZeldaHD re-releases back out on either its current or next-gen platforms. Whether they do or don’t, though,The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventuresdeserves another shot. Here’s hoping Nintendo can bring out an exciting revival of one of theZeldafranchise’s most unique titles.
