In the new clip posted by Universal Studios on YouTube, the video showcases cast and crew members detailing how they specifically wanted to use practical effects while getting to work on the film.Director Leigh Whannelloutlines that the effects forWolf Manneeded to be as real looking as possible so that it would feel like “it was actually happening.” Special Effects designer Arjen Tuiten reveals in the clip that he wanted to make this different from anything that had been done in the past.
Whannell said that he had been inspired by previous classics likeJohn Carpenter’sThe Thingand David Cronenberg’sThe Flywhere two anatomies mix together to produce horrifying results. The clip shows different images of how the team included realistic effects on places like the arms and legs to produce a rawer, animalistic visual experience. Julia Garner also pops up throughout the short video to express how “speechless” she was at witnessing the effects, stating that she had never seen anything look so real before, while the film’s crew thought it was “one of the scariest things they’ve seen”.
