Monolith’sWonder Womangame has found itself in the same boat asHollow Knight: Silksong. Since the announcement of both games, their respective studios have shared little to no updates regarding progress.Wonder WomanandSilksonghave become two games that are notorious for being stuck in development hell, but the latter has the upper hand when it comes to having a built-in fan base ready for its arrival.

Silksonghas offered a few updates here and there for a while, but indie dev group Team Cherry has been silent for a long time now. The game missed its summer 2023 release target, and while it’s still in development, there is no end in sight to its production. While the wait has been frustrating for many who are eager forHollow Knight’s next chapter, there are plenty of die-hard fans who are willing to wait as long as needed to get a strong game at launch.Wonder Womanhas faced years of silence, too, but it’s unfortunately missing the same audience thatSilksongalready has locked in.

Monolith’s Wonder Woman Project is Playing a Risky Game With Too Much Silence

Hollow Knight Boasts Good Will, While Wonder Woman Still Has to Prove Itself

Back in 2017,Hollow Knighttook the industry by storm, proving itself to be a massive indie hit. Developed by a small team of only three people, Team Cherry made a stellar first impression, inspiring a sequel. However, due to the small size of the dev team, it has taken far longer than expected. The expectations forSilksongare incredibly high, which can be daunting, but Team Cherry at least has the benefit of already proving itself capable.

Of course, Monolith has proven itself withShadow of WarandShadow of Mordor, but not with a DC Comics property. The long wait forSilksongis one thing, but the silence surroundingWonder Womanbefore Monolith has even demonstrated that it can properly adapt such a beloved superhero makes its lack of updates more concerning. According to insider Jason Schreier, whenWonder Womanwas first revealed in 2021,Monolith had yet to begin active development. While it makes sense for a developer to want to generate hype, announcing games too early has been an ongoing issue in the industry, as it has been leaving many restless.

Wonder Womanis set to mark the return of Monolith’s popular Nemesis System.

DC Games Are in Need of a Win

The state ofDC-based gameshas been abysmal as of late. BetweenGotham KnightsandSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the DC brand is in need of a serious success if its superhero roster wants to continue to be in the gaming space. If Warner Bros. and Monolith want to keep prospective players optimistic, the performance of the aforementioned DC titles isn’t promising. Therefore, offering some sort of announcement sooner, rather than later, may be necessary moving forward.

Released in February 2024,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s last season will be Jun 12, 2025.

Wonder Woman’s 2025 Plans Remain Unclear

As of now, there are no confirmed plans for Monolith to make any type of substantialWonder Womanannouncement. At this point, though, there doesn’t even have to be a new trailer or in-game footage. A lot of gamers who are excited abouta standaloneWonder Womangameare mainly wanting transparency, and that will hopefully come in the new year.

Back in November,Monolith updated its website to putWonder Womanfront and center. This could be teasing an impending announcement, but only time will tell. Until Monolith addresses gamers,Wonder Womanremains a mystery. Even thoughSilksongwaits alongside it in development hell,Wonder Woman’s silence may be squashing any hype that could be generated.
