As the year comes to an end, many games have begun reflecting on the high points their communities have reached throughout the year. Blizzard did so recently in a letter from president Johanna Faries where it revealed someentertaining statistics fromWarcraft,Diablo, andOverwatch 2.
Now,World of Warcrafthas done so as well with a new video that celebrates some of the player highlights from over the last year. The video speeds through dozens of clips from 2024, including several that showcased community contests like the Nerub-ar Palace race to world first, the Mythic Dungeon International and Arena World Championship grand finals, and thePlunderstorm Creator Clash tournament held byWorld of Warcraft.
World of Warcraft Community Highlights in 2024
The video also showed off several creations and events run by the community. Fan-made acrylics, sculpts, claymation, and cosplay can be seen in the video, celebrating the creativity ofWorld of Warcraftplayers. It also highlighted in-game events like the Great Gnomeregan Run – a micro-holiday inspired by the Running of the Gnomes charity event originally created by the community for Breast Cancer Awareness Month – which had one of its largest turnouts in 2024.
Some of the best parts of the video were fans' reactions to some of the major reveals from 2024. Jason “Thor” Hall’s reaction to Beledar’s transformation in Hallowfall, Taliesin and Evitel’s shock at theplayer housing reveal duringWarcraftDirect, and Xal’atath invading TimTheTatMan’s stream ahead ofThe War Within’s release were just some of the moments of hype captured in the video.
The 20th anniversary ofWorld of Warcraftwas on November 23 this year, and the massive celebration was front and center in this highlight reel. Clips from the special 20th anniversary concert that took place after theWarcraftDirect,WoW’s appearance at a University of Washington football game, and Esfand dressing up as his Troll character for the release of the 20th anniversary realms showed that this year was full of memorable moments – and ifWorld of Warcraft’s ambitious roadmap for 2025is any indication, next year will have no shortage of excitement for fans as well.
