Summary
The Shadowy Figure is back inWorld of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery Phase 6, this time watching players progress through Ahn’Qiraj from the sidelines. This mysterious individual’s continued association with the Void, Old Gods, and other dark designs adds further fuel to the speculation that the Shadowy Figure is none other than Xal’atath, the main antagonist ofWorld of Warcraft: The War Within.
During the first phase of Season of Discovery,World of Warcraft Classicfans encountered an enigmatic Shadowy Figurewho helped them craft Void-Touched Armaments – some of the best gear available at that level. She appeared again in Phases 2 and 3 to help players create even more powerful equipment, though she was nowhere to be found in either of the first two endgame phases.

However, now thatWorld of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery Phase 6 has arrived, the Shadowy Figure has been spotted once again. That said, unlike previous phases, theShadowy Figure does not helpWorld of Warcraftcharacters craft items– instead, she can be seen observing the players from out-of-bounds areas around the Ruins and Temple of Ahn’Qiraj. Considering her investment in the Void, it is not terribly surprising to see her here, as it is the home of C’Thun, the first Old God fans encounter inWorld of Warcraft.
The Shadowy Figure in WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 6
Though players cannot interact with the Shadowy Figure directly, fans who use the Void-Touched Emblem to imbue their weapon with a shadowy cosmetic effect while in Ahn’Qiraj receive a whisper from her saying, “Ah, the so-called ‘Old Gods’… washed-up has-beens. Boring and misguided as ever… but useful in their own way.” This whisper is quite similar to the private musings of Xal’atath – thePriest Artifact weapon-turned-antagonist ofWorld of Warcraft: The War Within– lending even more credence to the theories that she and the Shadowy Figure are one and the same.

This mysterious figure has sparked rampant speculation from players, and her most recent appearance has only fanned those flames. Many wonder if Blizzard is going to connect Season of Discovery to modernWoWin some way via Xal’atath – possibly as a part of the “larger than life”encounter coming to theWorld of Warcraft Classicexperiment.
If so, fans will have to see it pretty soon.World of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery Phase 7 has been formally announced, and though it does not have a release date yet, players can expect the final major update to arrive shortly after the new year.
