Even some of thestrangest compositions inMarvel Rivalscan find success, as evidenced by teams composed entirely of strategists that can win a match. Even formations reminiscent of the GOATs meta fromOverwatch, which consist of triple Vanguard and triple Strategist, can perform well.
With many seemingly unorthodox compositions able to prevail in the face of low odds, it begs the question: Can the MCU Avengers composition work inMarvel Rivals? As the poster children for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and some of the most recognizable heroes in Marvel Comics, some players have likely already tried to run this comp, and they will likely have noticed its obvious downside.
Are The Avengers a Viable Team Composition in Marvel Rivals?
The Avengers in Marvel Rivals Face One Glaring Issue
The game’s 6v6 format is perfectly suited for the original six Avengers: Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye, Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor. Unfortunately, there’s one obvious problem with this group, and it’s that they have to fight without any ofMarvel’s Rivals' Strategists. With no source of healing other than the health packs scattered around the match, when running this composition, it wasn’t uncommon to see teammates queuing up for the same health pack. Oftentimes, someone stealing it from someone waiting for health would lead to at least one member of the team dying, so the person who lives would need to make the trade worthwhile.
For those less familiar withMarvel Rivals' roster, an Avengers lineup consists of three Vanguard heroes and three Duelists. With two of the damage dealers consisting of snipers, maps with long sightlines would be ideal. One positive aspect of this group is that Black Widow’s Team-Up Ability, “Allied Agents,” allows her to damage the afterimages created by Hawkeye’s Ultimate ability. In an overtime situation or a moment where the enemy team is grouped up with little cover around them, this can be a game-changer.
A Thorough Analysis of The Avengers Comp
In this experiment, the game went to three rounds, which was longer than anticipated. With the other team running dual Strategists, triple Duelists, and one Vanguard, securing the objective in the first round was no easy feat. The most significant winning factor came from securing picks before the enemy team could, which mainly stemmed fromHawkeye’s one-shot ability. Black Widow maintaining high accuracy was also crucial because one headshot from her sniper could get squishy characters to low health. A quick follow-up shot from her or a finishing blow from a Vanguard or another teammate was a reasonably viable strategy if everyone continued communicating.
Unfortunately, even in Quickplay, the opposing team quickly realized that diving the snipers with heroes like Black Panther, Psylocke, or Spider-Man was incredibly effective. Despite theMarvel RivalsSeason 0 metaconsisting of heroes like Hawkeye, the game will be challenging if the archer isn’t hitting consistent one-shots. Though the Vanguard and Iron Man could peel, there’s not too much they can do when the goal is to maintain the objective, and there are limited health packs in the area. Moreover, their task typically concentrated on taking out enemy Strategists and squishes, leaving their backline free to harassment. Rotating Ultimates is of the utmost importance, but it may not be enough to secure a win.
Ultimately, forbeginners learningMarvel Rivals, it isn’t necessarily recommended to play the Avengers composition. It won’t be simple, even in the hands of more experienced players. It is a fun line-up to try in Quickplay, but it probably wouldn’t have a high success rate in many game modes.
