Summary

Ubisoft has released the final major content update for its soon-to-be-defunct first-person shooter,XDefiant, bringing a plethora of new modes, factions, gameplay adjustments, bug fixes, and more. Season 3, which is available to download now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, will be the final season forXDefiantas Ubisoft recently confirmed the long-standing rumors that the free-to-play title would be shutting down in 2025, with new downloads and registrations now unavailable.

Back in October, a new rumor began circulating thatXDefiant, which had only launched back in May, would be shutting down after its fourth season. This wasn’t the first time that such a rumor had made the rounds online, but the game’s executive producer Mark Rubin denied the claims on multiple occasions, stating that he had even been in meetings with Ubisoft regarding the game’s Year 2 updates. Unfortunately, the rumors were eventually proven to be true when Ubisoft announced it would beshutting downXDefiantand halting all new registrations. Existing players can still check out Season 3 and continue to play until May 16, 2025.

While Ubisoft’s free-to-play FPS title was quickly dubbed as a potential “COD killer” by the gaming community,XDefiant’s player count reportedly dwindled within just a few months, which is likely one of the reasons why Ubisoft opted to shut the title down. But for those who enjoyed their time with the title and plan to continue playing until the servers are taken offline next year, there’s a brand new update filled with content, including three new factions, a plethora of new modes and maps, and much more.

XDefiant’s factionsoften paid homage to various other Ubisoft titles, such asFar Cry,Rainbow Six, and with the recent Season 3 update,Assassin’s Creed. The latest patch adds three new factions for players to choose between: Assassins, Wolves, and Blood Dragon. In terms of new maps, Season 3 adds two new arena maps: Mykonos and El Barrio, as well as a linear map known as Jorvik and a tactical map based onAssassin’s Creedcalled Animus Anomaly. But the fun doesn’t stop there, as nine different maps that were planned for future seasons have also been released with Season 3 due to the game’s upcoming closure.

It’s unknown if this will be the final everupdate forXDefiant, or if Ubisoft intends to release new hotfix patches for the remainder of the game’s life cycle. What has been confirmed though is that this will be the final seasonal update forXDefiant, but the studio seems to have made it a big one as there is plenty of new content and bug fixes for players to check out.
